The Student Government Association (SGA) candidates presented their speeches and debates in the ballroom of the University Student Center. Candidates were dressed in their formal attire and the ballroom's table was decorated to match Morgan State's colors of orange and blue. The debates for the spring 2009 and fall 2010 class candidates started at 5:27pm and each individual speech was set for a maximum time of three minutes. This time limitation made it possible for each candidate to have time to express their views and opinions on why they should be chosen to represent Morgan State on the SGA council. The seats were filled with supporters of the candidates. The audience showed their dedication to the candidates by their "Vote for…" buttons, posters, t-shirts, and flyers.
While there were many candidates who ran for their respective offices, some classes only had one representative for some positions. There was only one team running for the title of sophomore class President and Vice President. The brave few that are running are Renford Freemantle and Nathaniel Scott. They started their speech with the realities of the freshmen's class academic standing. Nathaniel Scott informed the audience that, "38.9% of the freshmen class is below the 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) and most of those students would rather attend sex and HIV forums than convocations." Even after those blunt facts, Scott continued to express that there is potential for improvment. He even informed the audience that even though the freshmen class is not achieving their highest markings, they are still doing 4% better than the freshmen class of last year.
The junior class had three teams running for Class President and Vice-President. The first team to take the stage was Ashley Harris and Christina Lewis who spoke in unison with a powerful quote, "Ensuring a better today for a promising tomorrow." They wish to conquer this goal by having a series which helps students transition into the real world. The next team up to make their speech was Elizabeth Jarrell and Tyra Thompson. They spoke of having a platform with many goals and one passion. Their main goal for the junior class was to have strength in numbers and working together. The last candidates running for the position was a male duo, Kendrick McCleod and Gerren Toliver. They stated for the junior class to, "Live together or perish together as fools." Both men knew their responsibilities according to the Constitution and spoke of plenty of goals to unify the class as one.
